Wolves confirm interim coach Davis to continue coaching until 2023 after being rejected by Lopetegui and Beal
2022-10-21 11:13Premier League Wolves have officially announced that interim coach Steve Davis, 57, will remain in the first team until 2023.
"This move is designed to provide continuity and stability to the first team until the next manager is appointed permanently," Wolves said in a statement.
The official statement also stated that Davis would continue to be assisted by James Collins and Tony Roberts. They are currently focusing on preparing for the remaining four games before the World Cup.
The Wolves confirmed that Davis continued to lead the team as a helpless move: Due to a poor start to the season, the Wolves fired Bruno Lager’s coach in early October, and then appointed Steve Davis as the team's interim Coach. It is reported that the club was once interested in former Sevilla coach Lopetegui and Queens Park Rangers coach Michael Beer, but they were both rejected.
Wolves president Jeff Shi said they were in no rush to find a replacement for Lager without a suitable candidate. "We are not in a rush to find a new manager, nor will we compromise in any way. We will appoint the perfect fit for the club, for the team, for the Wolves manager," he said.
For Steve Davis, Jeff Shi expressed his supportive attitude: "During Steve and his team's interim coaching of the first team, we have seen the team improve and the players have responded well to them. Steve understands the club's culture and standards and we want to make it clear to him and his team where they stand so they have the best chance of success."
Steve Davis coached the club's U18s before coaching the Wolves. Under his rule, the Wolves' current record is 1 win, 2 losses and 9 points, and they are still ranked third from the bottom in the standings.
