Yuito Suzuki joins Strasbourg on loan from Shimizu S-Pulse with buyout clause
2023-01-28 16:45Strasbourg announced on Friday that it has signed 21-year-old Yuito Suzuki on loan from Shimizu S-Pulse for a half-season. The player's contract contains a buyout clause.
Yuito Suzuki is mainly used as a front midfielder, and can also be used as a winger or midfielder on the right. He played 93 times for Shimizu S-Pulse, with 6 goals and 4 assists in 2 years.
After Shimizu S-Pulse was relegated from the J-League last year, Yuito Suzuki became the focus of many European teams. It is understood that Mallorca and Celtic were once interested in Suzuki, but the latter finally chose to join the French club played by his compatriot Eiji Kawashima.
"I like a challenge"
Yuito Suzuki couldn't hide his excitement for the first time in his career in the European League. "Today is a very important day for me. I will discover another continent, another culture, another football," he said.
"I will continue to improve as a man, as a footballer. Ligue 1 is one of the best leagues in Europe, and Strasbourg is an iconic club. Joining them is a very important moment for me. Great opportunity. I love a challenge and I can't wait to take on this one!"
"One of the young players we're watching"
As President of Strasbourg, Mark Keller is delighted to have Yuito Suzuki on board. He expressed a warm welcome to the Japanese through the official media: "We are very happy to welcome him to the team. For a long time, we have always had the idea of opening up to Asia. He is one of the young players we pay attention to. We’re currently doing fieldwork on him. Unfortunately, the pandemic has slowed that down, but we still continue to watch a lot of video.”
"We watched him again a few months ago against Portugal with the Japan U-21s and he made a great impression on us."
