Guardiola says City have bagged a new left-back name, originally from Spain

The former Barca player has only been in the Premier League for a year.

HOUSTON - Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement with Arsenal on a move for Ukrainian left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko. Potentially losing one of the main options in the left-back position, The Citizens are said to be preparing to hunt for a new left-back.

A number of players' names had appeared in an attempt by The Citizens to patch the hole on the left side of the defense. The name of the player who is most widely mentioned is Brighton and Hove Albion left-back, Marc Cucurella. Guardiola is said to be attracted by the action of the former Barcelona player.

Only one season in the Premier League with The Seagulls, the Spaniard was immediately able to adapt and appear impressive and only missed three Premier League matches last season. Cucurella was even voted Brighton's best player last season.

Guardiola did not dismiss the opportunity for The Citizens to bring in the former player who could be placed as a left winger. The Spaniard is quite sure that City's Sports Director, Txiki Begiristain, has already pocketed the names of the target players for The Citizens in the transfer market, including the possibility of bringing in a new left-back.

''We will see. I think Txiki and the scouting team already have names in all playing positions. Txiki already understands and knows very well what he has to do and what is best for this team,'' Guardiola said as quoted by Sky Sports, Tuesday (21/7/2022).

Although it is reported that they have started negotiations with Brighton, City are still having problems persuading the Seagulls, especially regarding the amount of Cucurella's transfer. The new Seagulls are willing to release the player who still has four years remaining on his contract with a transfer tag of 50 million euros.

On the other hand, City only want to pay with a transfer value of 30 million euros. If it fails to get Cucurella, City is said to have pocketed another name. It is Stuttgart left-back, Borna Sosa, who is on the radar of the defending Premier League champions.

Sosa can be a cheaper player option than signing Cucurella. However, Cucurella remains a top priority in filling the left-back position. Zinchenko's departure to Arsenal seems to be a matter of time. Guardiola also revealed that he had bid farewell to the 25-year-old defender.

Reportedly, Arsenal are ready to provide transfer funds of 32 million pounds to redeem Zinchenko. The Gunners' offer has also been accepted by The Citizens.

“Yesterday was quite an enjoyable time. We still say a more deserved farewell to Oleks (Zinchenko). Unfortunately, that condition did not happen to Gabriel (Jesus) and Raheem (Sterling), because their move coincided with the summer vacation,''said the former Barcelona coach. With Zinchenko's potential departure,

Guardiola does have increasingly limited options at left-back. In fact, City does not have a player who plays the main position as a left back. Joao Cancelo, who is often trusted to appear on the left side of the defense, actually plays as a right wing defender.
