Sampdoria unable to buy out Tottenham loanee Winks due to financial crisis
2023-04-06 16:41Sampdoria are unable to implement Harry Winks' £22m buyout option due to their financial crisis.
Therefore, Winks will return to Tottenham Hotspur after his contract expires this summer. He has only one year remaining on his current contract.
Tottenham correspondent Tom Barclay, now working for The Sun, first reported the news on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Winks is a product of Tottenham's youth training system, mainly serving as a midfielder on the field. At the age of 18, he made his professional debut as a substitute for Paulinho in the Europa League Cup, and finally followed the team to beat FK Partizan 1-0. In the next 8 years, Winks played a total of 203 times, scoring 5 goals and sending 6 assists for Tottenham.
The arrival of Tie has gradually reduced Winks' starting opportunities, forcing the player to play for Sampdoria on loan last August. However, Winks missed half the season with an ankle injury until his return in January.
In the past 4 months, Winks has played 11 times in total, but has not scored or assisted. Sampdoria currently continues to rank 19th in the standings and still needs 10 points to successfully relegation.
At the same time, Sampdoria faced the risk of bankruptcy and could not even pay the wages of players and staff.
